Mural 'has brought life' to theatre building
A mural that shows passers-by a glimpse inside a building has been drawing attention. Street artist Nathan Murdoch was commissioned to create the mural on a wall of Key Theatre in Peterborough to give the building "life". A spokesperson from the theatre said the finished artwork had brought in people who may not have previously known what the building was. Before the mural's creation, the wall had been blank and uncommissioned graffiti had started to appear on it. George Barnett from Landmark Theatres said: "It has brought a bit of life to the building. "It was a blank wall that was being graffitied on anyway, I don't think anyone walking past it would know this was a theatre. "This has drawn a lot of attention towards us and people have been asking about what we do inside the building." He added that the theatre company loved having the work and was pleased people were enjoying it. "We wanted it to show what it is that we do. We hope this can be a kind of legacy piece that will last as long as possible," he said. Local artist Mr Murdoch, of Street Arts Hire, was asked to paint the mural. He is well known in the city for his art including a street scene in Cowgate, painting a toilet block, and a dreamscape in Queensgate. His other work includes a tribute to Prodigy frontman Keith Flint, and images promoting anti-racist messages.
